Child Welfare Specialist II, Success Coach, Motivational Speaker
Jillian Highsmith is a passionate advocate for youth development, born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, and currently residing in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is the founder of The What’s Next Project Educational and Community Development Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young girls aged 12-21 to become successful leaders within their communities. Jillian’s mission centers on equipping these young women with the skills and confidence they need to thrive both academically and in life.
At the age of 16, Jillian faced a pivotal moment when her high school counselor discouraged her from pursuing college, citing her struggles with severe anxiety and the barriers that accompanied it. Instead of allowing these challenges to define her, Jillian transformed her struggles into a source of strength. This journey of resilience and self-discovery ignited her passion for guiding young girls to explore their potential and discover “What’s Next” in their lives.
Through The What’s Next Project, Jillian has created a nurturing environment where young women can build a solid foundation for their futures. Her unwavering commitment to fostering confidence and leadership in girls reflects her belief that every young woman has the power to accomplish her goals and make a positive impact in her community.
Jillian’s dedication to service extends beyond her nonprofit. She has collaborated with a variety of organizations, including the Girl Talk Foundation, Belk Fashion, Helping Hearts Non-Profit Organization, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, and the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. These partnerships have allowed her to reach and inspire countless young women, reinforcing her vision of collective empowerment.
Living by the motto, “The Key to Success is to Start before You’re Ready,” Jillian embodies the spirit of determination and courage. She continues to inspire the next generation of leaders to embrace their journeys and strive for success, no matter the obstacles they may face.
